Birthday at the St. Louis Science Center

The St. Louis Science Center has long been a staple of my life. I remember going there with mom and dad to listen to talks in the planetarium when I was little, and I remember tormenting classmates there on field trips as I got older. (I have particularly fond memories of piling onto the earthquake machine!)

I went there on my birthday this year because they had two exhibits that appeal to both my inner-child and my inner-mechanoid: their Aliens and Androids exhibit and the IMAX movie ‘ROBOTS’. Clearly, this is what I had to do!

It turns out that time does distort one’s perceptions somewhat. The science center is definitely a place for the young to learn and experience…but I still can’t help but find it inspiring. The ROBOTS movie caused me to seriously rethink what I want to do with my life and my career, and the Aliens and Androids exhibit…

Well, oddly, it made me want to get back into costuming. How come I’ve never joined the 501st? Star Wars was so singularly formative for me in my teenage years, and I even have a vacuum-forming table. I guess those are the next steps…

If I had to pick a favorite, though, I still love going through the Planetarium. They have a Mars exhibit that only promises to get cooler as the end of the year approaches, and now that I’ve met MAC’s Old Team, the Gemini cruiser means a lot more to me. That is space-past and space-future, all in one room.
